“Hard” (PMMA) lenses were the original lenses that were first fit by Dr. Rod Small in the 1970’s. These lenses did not breathe at all and are now manufactured with a much more gas (or oxygen) permeable material. Now known as rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, these lenses can often provide better vision than a soft lens. They can be ordered to correct astigmatism and are also available for those who need a bifocal to correct their distance and near vision. Armstrong & Small Eyecare Centre is happy to continue to fit RGP’s and provide services for those who prefer this type of contact lens.
